Once in a while, you discover a commercial that gets better every time you see it.
Amazon's latest holiday ad might be one of them.
Watch it. Then watch it again and let me know if you disagree.
The ad isn't particularly complicated, so if you were paying attention, you likely understood the narrative on your first viewing. It's even possible that at times over the last two years, you've felt the same way as the young woman depicted in the spot.
But did you notice the haunting soundtrack accompanying the ad? That was mega-superstar Adele's newest track, "Hold On"; it's from her"30" album that'll be released later this week, on November 19th. If you go back and watch the ad again while reading the lyrics, you may notice how well what you see aligns with what you hear. Coincidence? I think not.
Of course, there's significant irony in one of the world's largest retailers telling us that "kindness is the greatest gift"... but that's part of what makes the holiday ad so powerful.
As we head into the holiday season this year, it's a message we should keep in mind.
