It's my birthday today.
I haven't officially celebrated my birthday for the last 14 years.
(My eldest daughter's birthday is tomorrow, and since she was born, I've preferred that my family focus all our birthday attention on her. When she's older, maybe we'll celebrate together. For now, December is all about her.)
But since I was pleasantly surprised to wake up to so many birthday texts, emails, and social media messages, I thought I'd at least acknowledge it.
If you want to do something to celebrate my birthday, here are a few suggestions.
Birthday wishes, if you will...
🎂 Make somebody smile.
Hand out compliments like you're Santa Claus. Hold open a door for someone with their hands full. Buy a stranger a coffee. If you have the opportunity to make somebody smile today, do it.
🎂 Get a copy of Don't Let the Crocodiles Fight! for an imaginative child you love.
#SorryNotSorry for the shameless plug, but I'm really proud of this book and early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive!
🎂 Write a note to someone you admire and tell them you appreciate them.
I don't do enough of this myself, and it's one of my 2025 goals.
🎂 Hug a loved one.
🎂 Start!
If you've always wanted to write a book, write your first paragraph.
If you've always wanted to learn a new language, download Duolingo.
If you've always wanted to go skydiving, book a date.
As I'm reminded every year on this day, you only have so many trips around the sun.
Enjoy the journey.
