I spent the better part of Sunday afternoon doing my annual Fall backyard cleanup.
That's where my family and I take everything in our backyard (toys, tables, chair pads, etc.), bring it to the front yard, give it a good cleaning, and then pack it up into the garage for the winter. It also involves pulling weeds, cutting my overgrown lawn, draining and covering our pool, and several other chores.
None of these chores are particularly fun, and the family does not enjoy this annual task.
But we all know it has to get done, sooner or later.
And we all know that the longer we wait, the more stressful and less pleasant the task becomes. We don't want to spend a nice Sunday afternoon in the Fall doing these chores, but we really don't want to leave them until a freezing Sunday afternoon in November.
The report you need to finish.
The bad news you need to share with your customer.
The employee that just isn't working out.
All of these things need to be dealt with eventually.
Sooner is usually better than later.
P.S. The photo above is not a picture of my family, it's what Microsoft Co-Pilot generated in response to the prompt, "generate an image of a family working together to get their backyard ready for the winter". A photo of my family might have been nice, but nobody was in the mood for pictures after an afternoon of chores.
